Guido – Gustav? Who’s naming these guys?
Well, everyone has talked down all week about our intent to go to Panama City this weekend. And, I remained optimistic. And, so…now, my optimism pays off for me but could prove really bad for the once already beaten up New Orleans. It was 3 years ago today that Katrina devastated that area.
So, my not so funny joke for the day was
Will we be shaking hands with Guido or just simply waving at him?
I’m sure folks I was nuts since the things name is Gustav not Guido but hey, I have a lot of stuff fluffing up in my brain right now.

Speaking of stuff fluffing up my brain, I suggested that Ditto-Boy’s teacher send me his work for next week so he can keep up and not get behind. Holy Mother of Guido or Gustav or whoever, that was a lot of work she sent home. A whole lot of work.
If you are Dibels literate, I would love an explanation. Yes, I’ve discussed Dibels before but I really don’t have a clue. So, I give to you, my son’s scores…let the experts come out of the woodwork and explain this stuff to me:
Initial Sounds Fluency – Benchmark 8+, his score was 21
Letter Naming – Benchmark 8+, his score 27
Ok, experts, let’s have it!

On the blog Mom is Teaching that I am the author, we are having great fun blasting discussing teachers that give homework. You should join us over there if you think you might have an interest in such a topic.
I put my opinion out there thinking I was going to get slaughtered for it and believe it or not, tons of people have the same belief that I do…
Homework does not equal Academic Achievement.
And, with that, all the teachers that came from my father’s generation of teachers, will be in agreement with me I think. The new generation of teachers? I suspect they are going to be upset. Thus far I’ve not heard from a teacher of the present day, only a former teacher who said she did not give homework and a high school senior who says she doesn’t mind but she also admitted she didn’t know how to study AND parents, parents, parents.
I’m going to hush here now and you can go read it all for yourself.

And, with that….I will be around, too much work to do on the computer to completely be “gone on vacation” and we have Ditto-Boy’s school work to do and I suspect we will have some rain so there will be some time for work while we hang out in the condo and watch the waves crash and the wind flow. With that….. see ya tomorrow!
