Ok, Frigidaire – I have photos but first…

Yes, indeed, I have photos.  But, honestly, the story with the photos is coming but not tonight.  Right now they  need a bit of editing and there’s a story for them.  Tonight, I’m going to tell you what I found way more interesting about the whole process.

As you know, I am part of the Frigidaire Test Mom Team from Mom Central.  I was offered a dishwasher, that didn’t pan out and I was given the opportunity to choose my appliance.  I chose a red washer and dryer, front loaders maxed out to the gills.  More on that in another post.  The following is some paraphrasing of a few conversations that occurred regarding my Frigidaire appliances.

delivery guy at the local appliance store:  what is this?

manager:  I don’t know why?

delivery guy:  well, where does it go??

manger:  I don’t know why?

delivery guy:  let’s look up the model numbers

manager:  ok…….wait, those model numbers don’t exist in our system

delivery guy:  yea so what is it and why is it here?

Fast forward a day and they had found out a little bit about what was in the boxes and why they had them in their possession.

Manager:  some Lady in Nauvoo won them in a contest

delivery guy:  oh, wow, bet they are nice

Manager: yea I guess

Fast forward to the actual delivery of the the washer and dryer today:

delivery guy:  how did you get these? my boss said something about a contest

me:  well, yea, not really a contest but…well…it was a company on the internet…..never mind, yea it was a contest

delivery guy:  these are awesome, we didn’t even have model numbers on them, do you know you can’t buy these?

me:  erm…yea I knew that

delivery guy:  they are red, did you know that?

me:  erm…yea I knew that too

delivery guy: ok, well let’s get them installed

me:  ok, get busy dudes

delivery guy opens the pedestals, they put them together and the delivery guy takes the cardboard off of the dryer

delivery guy:  HOLY COW, I HAVE NEVER!  *eyes as big as the state of Texas* I deliver appliances all day and I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS.  I delivery front loaders by other company’s all the time now because they are the hot appliance but I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS!

me:  yea, I read the specs on them

Boy Genius:  yea, how much does a set of front loaders cost in the store

delivery guy:  the highest end product we have as a set sells for $2K or so but I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHIG LIKE THIS BEFORE!

me:  yea, I read the specs

delivery guy:  Holy cow, this dryer is 7 cubic feet

me:  and?

delivery guy:  the biggest one we have in the store is 4 cubic feet

me:  oh, yea I read the specs *totally lying*

delivery guy:  this dryer weighs a ton, I usually unload the dryers alone but hey, dude, I need some help

Note:  he was a big guy but he couldn’t lift the dryer, I’ve seen many men much smaller than him including my husband lift a dryer, this man couldn’t do it.

delivery guy:  holy cow the drum in this thing is huge, and what is this?  a shoe rack?  a light on the inside? I HAVE NEVER SEEN AN APPLIANCE LIKE THIS, NEVER!

me:  yea, I remember reading about the shoe rack.

Fast forward to washing machine

delivery guy:  I couldn’t lift the dryer, I know I can’t lift the washer,

delivery guy pulls the box out from around the washing machine

me:  oh look how pretty

delivery guy:  OH MY GOSH!  I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE

me:  yea, well I saw the little catalog and I read the specs *totally more faking*

delivery guy:  this washing machine….has an 1100 rpm spin cycle, the ones we normally sell have between 300 to 500 and oh my, I HAVE NEVER…. this one guy bought a front loading washing machine that was no where as good as this one and he said after the super spin cycle he can almost fold his towels and put them away, but THIS MACHINE IS AMAZING

me:  yea, I knew it was a bad boy, I am thrilled beyond belief

delivery guy:  I can’t imagine what these things will sell for because I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING THIS HIGH END.  I have never even heard a customer ask for something this big.

me:  I know, I was lucky, really really lucky

delivery guy:  What are you going to do with your other set? (which my husband had already taken out of the laundry room - alone by the way so you know they weren’t that heavy – he had put them the kitchen so the delivery folks saw them)

me:  well….

delivery guy:  they look brand new, how old are they?

me:  about 5 years old but we never had a problem.  My cousin has a friend and she and her husband, and 3 kids all live in a one bedroom trailer and the washer and dryer they have was given to them about 5 years ago and they were really old and about to quit working even then, so I am giving my old washer and dryer to them

delivery guy:  wow that’s awesome, by the way, you know that you must use HE laundry detergent in these, blah blah blah

me:  yea, I read the specs

I point to two bottles of ALL detergent that I received for a review several weeks back and noticed that neither of them were HE so I put the partially opened one on my table to give to my mom and I put the brand new bottle with the washer and dryer for my cousin to take to the family that was getting my old appliances

delivery guy:  man, that’s awesome that you are willing to help someone you don’t really know

me:  well these appliances came to me through good karma and I am going to pay it forward

Fast forward, my cousin calls and says that the lady was beside herself with the washer and dryer.  Now, they were nasty, I kid you not, my husband’s work clothes make the washer really dirty and that was what had been washed last so it was dirty

Cousin:  when I started unloading the washer and dryer the woman asked if they were new because she had never seen a washer and dryer that looked that good

me:  oh my, they were filthy

cousin:  yea and when I gave her the ALLlaundry detergent she said that her family would be spoiled now because she had been using Dishwashing detergent for months because they couldn’t afford any laundry detergent

me:  about to cry, wondering why I feel sorry for myself sometimes because I want to go eat a big fancy meal somewhere or attend this conference or that one and this woman is thrilled over a 5 year old washer and dryer and a bottle of 96 load washing detergent

People, I have but one thing to say….I HAVE NEVER FELT SO GOOD IN MY LIFE…I am sure I have but not in a long time.  My kids leave me with astounding moments alot but I can’t recall the last time I was able to help someone to this degree and it was all because Frigidaire and Mom Central reached out and chose to help me.

I am including one photo but only because I mentioned how “pretty” the appliances are.  As if beauty has anything to do with functionality.  But, just look, I took this picture then realized that I was going to need better angles, these gems are so pretty and shiny, the caused my camera to go whacko….good photos in a couple of days.

[...] Another specialty involving the appliances came as I was about to put my old appliances in storage. My cousin asked if he could buy them from me to give to his neighbors. He told the story of a family of 7, living in a two- bedroom mobile home, the only working person made $7 an hour and they didn’t even have a washer and dryer. It was an easy decision. I gave my old ones to that family. My cousin encouraged me to let him pay for them. I couldn’t accept it. Giving just did seem like good Karma considering the new ones had been given to me.
