Just What The Doctor Ordered

I don’t like to generalize, but my orthopedic doctor is quite geeky looking.  I mean, he fits the bill of total book worm.  But, he speaks me-language and it’s so helpful.  But, today, as we were discussing this cast that has been on my foot for 100 days today….argh…..I said something about the swine flu.

The good doctor proceeded to call bull crap on that one.  I was like ok.

Sidenote:  Prior to that when we were still in mode of discussing my foot, he said, “so, it still hurts like a son of a bitch uh?”  And, I was like, “whoa, er…yea that!”

So, anyway, he called the fear of the Swine Flu bull crap.  So, then, I asked him if he had heard what Joe Biden said today.  To which he replied “no but once the election was over I know he was like be-damn-it-all I can say whatever I want now”.  I couldn’t help but laugh.

So, I explain what Mr. Biden said today involving (I’m paraphrasing here) “sneezing in a confined place like a plane should be avoided” And, as it was, folks had to follow up behind him and fix it all.  But, then…..the conversation on to….

“do you need pain medication?”  and well, duh I have a broken foot, of course I do….and he says…”well if you take them when you travel, make sure they are in the original bottle or they (airlines) will think you are going to see Rush Limbaugh or something”

To which I totally do not get that joke, but it sparked a conversation on ….”so what is it that you do for a living” to which I hate that question…..but my answer was…”well…I write…on the internet…like blogging?  do you know what that is?” and he commences to giving me advice that went something like this…again I’m paraphrasing

“no, not really but it is, kind of, I think it’s like Rush Limbaugh (what’s up with this guy and Rush) and Ann Colture.  They look on Amazon, see how your books doing, see sales are down, get on the air, say something stupid and controversial and then……sales go back up”

I was like….ok, did you just call my writing stupid?  No, I didn’t say that, I just nodded that yea, that’s kind of what I do.  So, I guess he was feeling inspired by now and he felt he needed to give me another piece of advice…..

“but, you have to make sure you are careful with how controversial and stupid you get because you know…..you want to increase your readership, not run everyone away…”

I was like “uh-huh, that’s it”

Do you guys think I do that?  Do you think I’m controversial?  Every?
