Make Over That Man! Courtesy of Norelco UPDATED AT BOTTOM! CLOSED

Ok, first let me explain how this worked.  I was selected to participate in a campaign to help my husband update his look.  Since he tends to be horrible about shaving, the idea that he would get a Norelco shaver was so tempting.  He hates to shave.  All those years in the Army has caused a serious rebellion it seems.

With that, I took this challenge to the max.  My husband doesn't get a 5 o'clock shadow.  He gets one about noon.  And, since he still wears his Army buzz cut, it's about every 3 weeks that he has to have a hair cut.  Every two weeks would be better.

When I told Boy Genius we were going to be doing this, he was game. He knows how much I hate his scruff and how much he hates to shave.  I did a couple of introductory Whrrl Stories but nothing like what I'm about to give you here.  Here the intro stories are Whrrl Story 1 and Whrrl Story 2.  The second one is about making over my kids.  If you want to see some of the other Norelco Make Over Stories, you can find them on Whrrl with #norelcomakeover

I figured, if I am going to be getting my husband a good shave, buzz cut and some new duds, I might as well go ahead and splurge on the boys too.  Now, Philips and Collective Bias are responsible for allowing me to do the shopping trip for Boy Genius, the boys mini-makeovers were just an addition to the fun.

I have a short clip for you of photos and the story, but here's what we did.  This last Saturday was the first Saturday that we did not have baseball games in ages.  We were just really kicked back doing nothing when Boy Genius said, "Let's go somewhere and eat, spend the night and then do some shopping tomorrow".

I threw some things in a bag and off we went.  Our first stop, grizzly bear man and all was to a restaurant where they cook on a Hibachi grill.  It's our favorite and it's called Stix.  Here's what Boy Genius looked like heading into the restaurant, posing behind our truck where my really cool window clings are...

the gruffAnd, just for tempting purposes...the final photo of my guy.......

final productMuch better, wouldn't you say?

Now, the transformation....in action..

Boy Genius is always a good spirit when it comes to my big fun projects.  Regardless of how fun he thinks they may or may not be, he always helps me.  So, it was high time he got a project from me that he could enjoy.

Once he got it open, he had to check it out, all the pieces and parts and then turn it on really quick before actually charging it.  His first comment was "Wow, it is so quite, it doesn't sound like a lawn mower like the ones I've had before"  (Which weren't Norelco by the way).

Often times he doesn't shave in the mornings because his other electric shavers were extremely noisy.  He would wake the kids regardless of where he was when he tried to shave.  So, once he had his shaver charged and started using it, he was thrilled and even said, "I can use this one without waking anyone up in the mornings".  When you leave for work at 4:30...it's important to be quiet so everyone in the house isn't wide awake....ahhhh!

His first response was, "Wow, really, Norelco makes some great razors".  Then, he started looking online at them.  Once we made it into the store, he looked over the ones he had seen online and immediately asked if he had to choose the cheapest one or the most expensive one.  I told him he could pick out which ever one he wants.

Now, let me say here, we aren't hungry or anything, but we rarely go shopping for items like this that we feel we can get the biggest, best one they have if we want.  We generally go for value.  However, many of you may remember that I was able to buy a Sonicare toothbrush thanks to Philips several months back and I went for the monster one just because it boasted a whitening effect.  Again, that's just not how we generally shop.  We are value shoppers for real.

So, as he started looking for the razor he wanted, they were out of two of the relatively cheap ones which we had already dismissed before arriving.  He looked over the selection, looked over the replacement costs for each and then made his decision.  No, he didn't get the big monster shaver that was available but he went down only one notch.  It was fun watching him pick out a product based on what he wanted not on what we could actually afford.  Since Philips and Collective Bias were sponsoring the trip, we wanted to get one that would help him with his scruff and be long lasting.

Side note here:  After I posted my preliminary Whrrl, Drew suggested I go back and get the grooming kit to help him clean up. I thought he meant for Boy Genius's nasty scruffy face, but he meant my son's mohawk.  But, I am going to get the husband the grooming kit after all.  I haven't been to Wal-Mart yet but I will go in a day or so, I'm going to get it and hide it until Sunday so he will have an actual Father's Day gift.

Once he got started shopping, he was almost like an obnoxious Christmas shopper.  He chose the razor, moved to the clothes and picked out a shirt and three pair of shorts, yes, three pair.  Then, when I suggested that we go ahead and get Ditto Boy and Mini Me a little makeover too, he grabbed them some shirts and we headed to the register.

We checked out and went back to the salon.  Ditto Boy went first, then Mini Me was a pain because he ...he is just a pain sometimes and so Boy Genius held him and he asked for a mohawk.  Yes, I'm one of those mothers, just get whatever you want, but get the hair cut already.

Boy Genius took his turn and then we were out of there.

Back at home, he opened his new toy and then took a shave.  Got dressed to look all stellar for our 8th Anniversary and bam...here's the whole story for you in pictures!

This was one of my all time favorite shopping trips.  We don't do holidays around here really big except Christmas and birthdays.  So, for Boy Genius to get this great makeover stuff for Father's Day and not to mention it was near our anniversary...this was really awesome.

As you can see in the video, he has serious issues with shaving and enjoyed his quite shave with the Norelco and I can't wait to get him the groomer.

In case you didn't see it, his #norelcomakeover consisted of the nice blue polo, and some khaki shorts and 2 pair of denim shorts to go with his stash of T-Shirts (notice, he had on his Mom-E-Centric shirt which labels him as Boy Genius, in the shopping photos) and the Norelco shaver he got was the Triple Track Heads and a clean haircut.

Since Norelco was so good to us, I added in a little makeover for the boys, Mini Me got a new clean crisp white shirt to wear under his jersey as we head to the 5 year old World Series both boys got a new pretty red collared church shirt.  Both boys got haircuts but Mini Me went with the mohawk look...temporarily mind you, only temporarily.

I have to agree with him that this is the quietest electric shaver I've ever seen or heard.  His old ones were so loud they could wake the dead when he used them.  And, as I said, the groomer will help him keep that goatee cleaned up.

Now, the ultimate challenge is to get him to shave more than once a month......Ahhh the challenges of life!  He says this shaver will make a difference because it felt good on his face plus it is quiet and he won't wake the boys in the mornings.  We shall see!  Overall, he was impressed, I was impressed and I hope you enjoyed the show!

I am a mom to two wonderful boys. They are my life. I needed a career where my kids could continue to be my life. We bought a daycare. Now, my boys and I spend all day together. Sometimes I need a mommy break, but mostly, I love it. I am definitely a mom who is focused clearly on her children. That's me, mom~e~centric.
