Elmer’s Making It Work #Bagitforward #CBias

I’m am honored to be part of the Elmer’s #Bagitforward campaign again this year.  You all know that I have a huge heart when it comes to children and public school.  The push to make a free public education as free as possible is my goal.  Luckily, I’m surrounded by big companies and little ones alike that feel the same way.

This year I took a little bit of a different approach.  The challenge was to buy supplies for one child to give away and for one of my own children.  However, with Educate My Alabama doing well, I decided to #Bagitforward with my own kids and then let the child that we chose to receive the goodies have the opportunity to participate in #Bagitforward as well.

Here’s what we did……

We took the supply list…

  • 3 Composition Notebooks
  • Loose Leaf paper
  • 1- one inch Binder – No Zipper binder
  • Zippered pencil pouch for binder
  • pencils
  • construction paper
  • colored pencils or crayons
  • headphones
  • Mesh or Clear Backpack

We took that list, gathered those supplies and then added copy paper, expo markers and a large tri-fold poster board for that “special” project…whatever that may be…

Of course, shopping is the best part…..and when you shop……in Alabama….you find the coolest of the coolest……….like Alabama Roll Tide….

So now, if you would like to get involved...you can do that too

From July 25 through Sept. 1, for each “like” on the Elmer’s Facebook page, the company will donate a product to the Foundation’s national network of free stores, where teachers from disadvantaged schools can “shop” for free for school supplies. Products to be donated include a variety of glues, foam board, project supplies and pencil sharpeners. If you already like the page, we’ll make a contribution on your behalf, but you can donate again by watching a video on the Elmer’s Kids In Need Facebook tab and sharing it with your friends and family.

And, you can upload the photos that take for your Bagged Forward on BagitForward and by all means, share it and.....just for you

Here's my intro to my.thismoment story

The quest courtesy of Elmer's Glue was to help a child in need gather school supplies for the upcoming school year.  Of course, finding kids in need is the easy part and having Elmer's to help make this a success was icing on the cake.  The instructions were to purchase goods for a needy child and one of my own children.  However, we've been involved in founding our own non-profit so we decided to add a twist to Elmer's Bag It Forward campaign.

Our personal touch was to gather the items for the student that we chose and then gather the exact same supplies for a second child.  We gave both bags to the same student with the instructions to "Bag it Forward" and give away one set of the supplies.  We also did this on a semi-anonymous basis.  I'm fairly certain that the child's father knows that we were the ones handling the giving process with Elmer's help but the child doesn't know unless he told her.

The list was composed of 3 Composition notebooks, loose leaf paper, 1 binder, zippered pencil pouch, pencils, construction paper, colored pencils, headphones, mesh or clear backpack, kleenex, paper towels, baby wipes and GermX.

We first went through the supplies we had and then went shopping.  We gathered an Elmer's Tri-fold board for each child (which obviously isn't on the list, but projects always demand the best supplies), an Elmer's zippered pouch for each child and a large pack of Elmer's construction paper.  Then, we started pulling together the things that we didn't already have in our supply closet, including an awesome mesh pink backpack.  Since we didn't know who the little girl might want to give the second bag too, we chose a clear backpack which is required in the schools here.  (We can do mesh or clear).

I assembled the goodies, for photos and then assembled them again in the bags and headed out the door.  I included a note to the little girl with directions on what to do with the second bag.  You can see that in the photos here.

As we pulled out of their driveway, I sent her dad a text message that said, "knock knock, check your back door steps"....he has yet to answer.....maybe they will be home soon!

This project has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Elmer's #bagitforward #collectivebias.  Opinions are my own...and I'm a strong minded individual...all I can say is..Elmer's rocks!

I am a mom to two wonderful boys. They are my life. I needed a career where my kids could continue to be my life. We bought a daycare. Now, my boys and I spend all day together. Sometimes I need a mommy break, but mostly, I love it. I am definitely a mom who is focused clearly on her children. That's me, mom~e~centric.

Thanks, I try hard when it comes to children...I mean, I try harder....I think I have an 'adult-complex" you know, if you made it to 18, take care of yourself, but the kids...they don't stand a chance without everyone's help
