One of the local radio stations starts playing Christmas music the first day of November. It is one of my favorite stations and last year I remember being horrified at the thought of Christmas music so soon. We were snowed under with daycare “stuff” and I couldn’t bear to think about Christmas.
This year though, with nothing more on my mind then my family, my re-modeling adventures and the fact that I have already made it a point to finish the family room this weekend and get our tree up, I kind of enjoyed the music for a change.
I don’t know how many of you remember but last year my staff and I decided to forgo the Christmas gift exchange in the center and instead we pooled our money and bought 4 bicycles for a set of foster children that were part of our center. Actually we bought 3 bicycles and a tricycle. The kids were 7, 6, 4 and 2. There are 2 more more children younger than the one that was 2 and a half but they don’t live in the same home and we didn’t know them. Anyway, I cried like a baby when we gave those children their bikes. It was far and away the best Christmas gift I have ever given or received. It was totally awesome.
This year I have no idea when or where we will find “the” kids that we want to give a gift to, but we will most definitely do it, one way or another. And, here, right here through blogging, I’ve found one good way.
If you aren’t familiar with 5 Minutes for Mom, you definitely need to head on over there and see what all the excitement is about. And, if you’ve never given to the needy (and I don’t mean a quarter in the salvation army bucket), you will never understand the pure joy that it brings.
So, with that, let’s get this Holiday Season started!!!
