It really is time for me to speak out, as if Tiger Woods is any of my business, that is…
Well, 12 Days of Christmas aside, I think it is time that I put my thoughts out there. You know me, I’m not one to sit around being un-opinionated. So, let’s talk about Tiger Woods, can we?
I remember the exact spot in the road where I was when I heard Magic Johnson announce to the world that he was HIV positive. The year? Not so sure (looked it up, 1991), but the exact spot in the road. The car I was driving (November 1991, that would mean I was driving a 1988 Buick Regal)? Nope. But the spot in the road? EXACTLY!
It’s just one of those things that a college athlete takes notice of. It’s one of those things that being married to a college athlete takes notice of.
It is completely ridiculous the amount of attention collegiate athletes get.
But, professional athletes? Absolutely insane! I’ve been there, I seen it first hand. I later dated a member of an Arkansas National Championship Basketball team, I have seen just how these athletes are treated.
So, this whole thing with Tiger Woods? I remember where I was when I heard the news. I will probably always remember where I was. I may not remember the year but I’ll remember the exact place I was sitting and the show I was watching on television. But, the fact is, does it matter to me?
Absolutely not.
As someone on Twitter stated, just when did what Tiger Woods (or anyone else besides my husband for that matter) do with his penis become my business? Honestly, there’s that implied freedom of privacy that celebrities and athletes give up, but the truth is, put yourself in his shoes. Put yourself in his wife’s shoes.
Even if you had given up your implied freedom, wouldn’t you appreciate being treated decently, and if not for you the cheater, but for your spouse, your children, your parents?
The bottom line is this, as long as the media continues to make professional athletes feel superior, they are going to continue to take part in the most risqué activities they can find. It will almost be a game, to see how much the celebrity/athlete can actually get away with before being found out.
And, that’s where I draw the line, it’s simply none of my business. I’ve made jokes about the numerous women who keep “coming out” as having an affair with Tiger. Think about it, even the woman who denies it is getting enough attention that she too will be a celebrity and will probably be making a roll of dough all her own sooner than later. And, then…..like Jamie Jungers, who was at one time engaged herself yet still professes to have been involved with Tiger, she will be famous and the world will be nosing in her business while she sits back making herself a little cash flow.
You know what I think would be a much better topic if we are going to discuss athletes, let’s talk about the 2009 Heisman Trophy Winner…..Mark Ingram! Roll Tide Roll!
