My husband has a fancy for the bathtub.  I know that sounds kind of weird but he loves to sit in a tub of hot or even luke-warm water for hours on end.  If he has any type of ailment, his belief is that a bath will cure it.  I mean any kind…headache, bellyache, ingrown toenail, sty on his eye…take a bath, it will go away – or so says my husband.

So when bed and bath time near in our house, I have to start with the “barking orders” way earlier than should logically be necessary because, well, because I know that my husband is going to suggest that “I get in the tub and let the boys in one at a time”.

Sounds great uh?  Well, it would be except, bedtime is bedtime and his idea of bath time is a good 2 to 2 and one half hour affair.  No kidding.

Bedtime is sacred around here.  My kids have a set-in-stone bedtime of 7:30 and I’m not wavering for any reason…not even a bath.  I’d rather my kids go to bed dirty as miss their bedtime.  No kidding.  Or you know, at the very least they could take a quick bath and get in bed on time.

The actual ‘getting to the bed’ part is rather quick, once I get their dad out of the tub as well.  You see, due to the fact that my husband didn’t like my bed time tactics (which included both boys sleeping in my bed), he was given bed time duty by our counselor months ago.  But, naturally that means he too must cut his own soak time down to at least one hour.

He has been known to take baths at 2 in the morning over a stomach ache or even take the computer to the bathroom and set up a movie to watch.  Yea, so think, entire movie whilst lying in the tub…..that’s one long bath.

Anyway, once every one is out of the tub, I assist with pj’s, hand out hugs and kisses and then…bam, they are off to bed.  During the winter months, it’s isn’t near as difficult because, well it’s dark outside.  But, in the summer months when it is still daylight at 7:30, we have a little more difficult experience.

Either way,the delay to the bed…..rarely is the result of my silly children, mostly, it’s my husband, basking in the Jacuzzi and insisting that the kids want to “stay in just a little while longer”.

Yeah, whatever! At least they aren’t scared of the dark like their mother.  So, it’s all well and good, too long of a bath or scared of the dark?  I’ll take the former any day over monsters under my bed and “I need more light please”
