Can I Keep……?
This should be a quickie, but it won’t be, so I’m leaving out as many un-necessary details even though they might make the story funnier.
Case #1.
Pregnant. Husband working construction. Living in 40 foot camper in campground. Lady outside Walmart giving away cute black dogs, part lab, part rotweiller. Can I Have one? Sure says Boy Genius but you know I don’t believe in animals living outside? Ok, she can stay indoors. She weighed…oh 12 pounds. At 112 pounds, we were forced to evict her. But, at least we had a real home by then.
Case #2
I don’t like bugs or rats or spiders or did I say rats? I hate rats. Other kinds of bugs I am perfectly content to just squish and move on. But, rats, that’s someone else’s job to catch and rid. And, hamsters? As pets? No Way! My husband is ok with catching and ridding of rats, he doesn’t particularly do spiders. He says, he knew I was a true country redneck when he said, “SPIDER!” and I reached to smash it with my hand. So, what, a spider, yuk, kill it. He caught my hand just before the smoosh part, it was a Black Widow! OOPS! So, we didn’t keep that either.
So, our children, ages 5 and “3.95 and not potty trained” received this wonderful little kit this summer by which they could catch bugs and keep them. That’s fine I said, keep them at your Nanny’s house since she was nice enough to buy the darned things. But no, the bug catcher thingy hangs in my hall….on a closet door…..with ‘nare a live bug in it.
Prior to bed last night, Ditto Boy informed us that he had a snail living in the box and we were to leave it alone because he would need to come by and check on the snail once a year. Great. (I know that there’s been nothing living in that thing for quite some time!)
Case #3
This should have been Case #1 but it just makes more sense to be 3, so it is. Boy Genius called me on a Monday and asked me to dinner. I couldn’t go. He called me back and asked me to lunch. I went. He asked me to have pizza and watch a baseball game with him on TV on Tuesday night at my place. He never went home. Can I keep him was never asked, I just did.
